Lago de Tota
Yesterday, we visited lago de Tota, hidden in the state of Boyaca, can't take my eyes off it. It is just beeeaaauuutiful.
Peiro left this morning, can't believe he came and left :(. Manana de a manana we're going to Cartegena :).
As Simi said: "Colombia is a very beautiful country" and I violently agree to that.
Beautiful!
We drove to the state of Boyaca- state of beautiful mountains and found this lake.
Reunion
Reunion in Bogota, we were (and some are still) all in NYC between 2001- now. Aaron left that morning with a hangover and promise to meet next year in Malaysia. I had a gggreeeat time, am very happy they all came.
shutting down aiesec.ws
Good call to shut down aiesec.ws. Better to shut it down if it is not maintained. Its like fried old tofu- it stinks and should be thrown out. But where will all the bloggers from aiesec.ws go, nomadlife? If not everyone can be on nomadlife for whatever reasons, we should come up with something to link them to somewhere central.
What about Aiesec Internationa? It seems that Aiesec.Net was going to have a blogger system too. AI? How is that going?
1 here, 4 more to come..
Aaron is here, Jill arrives tomorrow, Piero on Saturday, Simi and Jan on Sunday. All here in the land of flowers, chicha, chivas, mountains, mora, tameles, salsa, aheicos, aguadiente and love! Can't believe this :) :) :). Aiesec reunion right here in Bogota!
Diwali & Eid
Malaysia's population is 60+% Muslim, 30% Chinese (either Christians or Buddhist), about 10% Indians (either Hindus or Christians).. and what does all this mean?
It means that we get holidays for EVERY religious celebration for muslims, hindus, buddhist and christians. It's a long public holiday weekend backhome now (Thursday till the next Tuesday) !! for Deepavali (universally called Diwali) and Raya (universally Eid). It's a big big big celebration for the Hindus and Muslims back home and it means I'm missing out the long holidays!
But on Monday, Colombia is celebrating Cartegena's independence day (Cartegena used to be the capital back back....) and it's Miss Colombia day! It's a big thing here! TV have been showing programs "displaying"the Miss Colombia candidates for the past 2 weeks.
can anyone travel futher?
I've been teased too many times for my "too-long" distance relationship. In today's world, it really isin't a big deal. I worked from Colombia for a company in the US, my family is in Malaysia, good friends are all over the world, with technology.. the cable internet, the NY Red Card, my chinatown "Sunflower"phone card, the MSN, the skype, this weblog... it really isin't a big deal.
Not till today, not till today.. that i feel the pain! I am going to need to travel to the furthest point in the globe from where I am. I'm sure it's literally not the furthest point, but can anyone travel any further (BOGOTA-SYDNEY) ? :( ... my flight ticket is costing tooooo much!
Death sentence, I hope its everywhere..
too many random thoughts in my scattered brain which I can't convey in words. But if you were to see me, you will see the twinkle in my eyes. How do I start.... I love travelling and specially to places of a different culture for obvious reasons (i don't think I need to explain). My lifestyle, aspirations, desires, elationship, values has evolve (at times swayed back & forth :P) so much in the last 3 years that I don't think my family or friends from years ago knows me anymore. I don't know myself too well to start with and if someone was to ask me for a list of differences between öld"and "new"me, it will be 2 pages.
Coming to Colombia, there are things that I do differently from my previous travelling days. It's no longer care-free, trying everything new that comes my way, partying all the time, making friends with just about anyone, this time I'm more directed, selective and focused. I will not go to church just because everyone in the family or society does. If someone takes drugs in front of me and ask me for an opinion ..I'm not going to say ïts your life, do whatever u want", 'I'll say.. "I hope you die next day becuase you are killing other ppl by doing that".
Through my stay here. I am now not suprised or puzzled anymore at why the "drug- culture of the USA" is disastrous for this country. With the drug situation here, it's actually difficult not to hate the Americans for what they are doing or have done. The situation here is GOD-DAMN complex and the American's is a HUGE cause of the problem. I don't think anyone can realize the damange caused by those keeping silent about the accepted drug-consumption culture (even if it's weed), till you see the situation here. I sincerely hope ppl will stop taking drugs whatever kind they are (be it marijuana or cokaine or anything else.) And don't even try to justify that weed as "not produced in Colombia" and therefore not contributing to the problem. But I also hope that the rest of the world like Malaysia practises death-sentence for carrying cocain. I will write more about this next time.
those were my random thoughts for the day from Sogamoso (3.5 hours from Bogota) where the day is sunny and where houses are built on solid green mountains, where potatos are carried by donkeys and children laughing on galloping horses.
Mi Amigos!
It's a sad day for many ppl, yo tambian.
Pero this picture is superb :). Can't believe we are all going to the Caribean and Amazon in 3 weeks... it might not happen but lets hope it does. Any ideas to fundraise for our trip is bienvinedo! Paola, Juan and I are mui pobre.
